About us
Over the course of his long career, Etienne Schneider has left an indelible mark on Luxembourg’s political scene. Born on the 29th January 1971 in Luxembourg, he is a graduate of the Brussels Management School (ICHEC) and the University of Greenwich in London. In 1995, he earned a degree in business and financial sciences.
Driven by his passion for politics and his desire to serve his country, he accepted a cabinet post in Jean-Claude Juncker’s government in February 2012, initially as Minister for the Economy and Foreign Trade. Following the legislative elections on the 20th October 2013, Étienne Schneider was appointed Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for the Economy, Minister for Internal Security and Minister for Defence. Five years later he was re-appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Economy, and accepted the position of Minister for Health.
He decided to leave government in 2020 to return to the business world, a domain in which he excelled prior to his role in public office. He has held the position of chairman in numerous large companies such as Enovos, Creos, Cegedel, and the Société Electrique de l’Our. He was also vice-chairman of the Société Nationale de Crédit de l’Investissement.
For a long time, he was the elder statesman (in terms of seniority) of the Ministers for the Economy of the European Union. However, his economic fibre eventually gained the upper hand and he became an independent director on several boards of directors, notably Arcelor Mittal, Besix Group and Jan de Nul.
A renowned public speaker, he regularly addresses the Luxembourg School of Business and uses his vast expertise to inspire audiences from the world of business.
